Smash Bros. Brawl Sells 1.4M in One Week
Nintendo's BEST WEEK EVER? Yes, actually. Quite literally.

Let the strutting begin. Nintendo has announced that in the first week of Super Smash Bros. Brawl's release in North America, the hotly anticipated title sold 1.4 million units, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo game ever (via GameIndustry.biz). No wonder it's so hard to play the damn thing online.
If the above number isn't impressive enough for you, we have more: the game sold 874,000 on March 9 alone, and since its release date through to March 16, Brawl has sold at a rate of 120 units per minute. Nintendo, what do you have to say for yourselves?
"Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from video game to cultural phenomenon," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun game play and extensive, inventive content."
Just for the sake of comparison, it's hard to say whether Brawl outsold Halo 3 in its first week of release, as Bungie and Microsoft never released first-week numbers. The game did sell 3.3 million in 12 days, though, which we could arbitrarily say might work out to 1.65 million in its first six days, still just barely beating out Brawl's haul in seven days.
The point of this entirely pointless numbers comparison? None, really -- they both sold stupefying well. We just like to frivolously waste your time.
